FRENCH STEAM LOCOMOTIVE VIRTUAL MUSEUM PICTURE GALLERY

Pacifics 4500 series 4501- 4570 and 4571 - 4600 (two consecutive orders). 4501 was the very first Pacific built in europe, delivered to the P.O. in july 1907 by the Graffenstaden plant of Société Alsacienne de Construction Mécanique, often designated by its acronym S.A.C.M., 1 year before the first "Bavarian Pacific" built by Krauss- Maffei.
They supplied some items (parts of chassis, wheels, ...) used later by Chapelon to produce his 480s.

#4501, 1907  This one, 4521 seen here when she was just delivered to the P.O in 1909. She will be "recycled" some years later into one of the most famous steam engine ever built: The first 4 8 0 Chapelon 4701...  4546 after (static) restauration, part of the collection of the SNCF museum in Mulhouse.
